Cohort Highlights

Reflecting on this past year’s challenges and achievements

COVID-19 RESPONSE

During their service term, Cohort 22 Corps Members continued to play a vital role in their communities during these challenging times. The cohort distributed more than 17,000 lbs. of organic produce for NYCHA community members and restarted our compost collection program collecting over 3,300 lbs. of food scraps.

OUTDOOR & Virtual EVENTS

Corps Members continued to expand their community engagement as part of Juneteenth by organizing a book giveaway at each of our five Eco-Hub sites distributing books for all ages, featuring authors of color, representative characters, and empowering storylines. Cohort 22 continued their engagement in the fall, welcoming 445 NYCHA residents to our annual end-of-season event, Harvest Festivals, held every Saturday across our Eco-Hubs during October. During the Harvest Festival, residents participated safely in pumpkin carving, dancing, potato sack racks, raffles, and arts & crafts.

PArtnership with FARM SCHOOL NYC

This year, in a partnership with Farm School NYC, an urban agriculture training organization rooted in food justice, Corps Members, Eco-Hub Fellows, and Service Coordinators participated in a high tunnel course led by our Operations Manager, Chloe Lazarus. Leading up to the build of the high tunnel, participants met virtually to discuss the logistics and organizing of the project culminating in the building of the tunnel at our Forest Houses Eco-Hub. This high tunnel will allow our Forest Houses team to extend our growing season as it will act as a greenhouse and offer weather-protected growing space.
